While there are high standards for Young Israel's position of Youth Director, it is certain that Sarah Lazaros will reach above and beyond and will bring great energy and creativity to the Youth House. Sarah grew up in a suburb west of Boston called Framingham. There, she attended Yeshiva Academy elementary school and later on, Maimonides School in Brookline. After she graduated Maimonides, Sarah spent the year at Migdal Oz, an Israeli Midrasha located in Gush Etzion. This September, she will be entering her junior year at Stern College, where she is a pre-med but majoring in Women's Studies. Sarah is also a TA at Stern and teaches Hebrew and helps out in weekly chemistry labs.
Sarah is the niece of Lisa and Seth Linzer, which is how she has stemmed a very positive relationship with Young Israel. "I had always felt really welcome in the community, and had noticed a friendliness and warmth in Stamford that made it really easy to feel at home there," she says. She is also looking forward to getting to know the children in the community and hopes to be a positive impact on them. Sarah believes that the most challenging aspect will be determining how each child learns best and then adapting to meet the needs of each child.
Sarah's hobbies include running, yoga, reading, volunteering, and spending time with friends. She is also interested in obstetric medicine, which is the field she wants to go into. This summer, Sarah spent a month in India on a Global Health mission.
The entire Young Israel community is greatly looking forward to Sarah being our new youth director! |
